The Christmas Letter
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
We truly hope this letter finds you and your loved ones healthy and happy, relaxing after so much hustle and bustle. Well, it has been a very exciting year for us. Of course you all know our big 2007 news. On March 20th at 11:40 am, our beautiful daughter Kathryn was born! She is growing so fast (nine months old already!?! WHAT!?!) and is an absolute joy. We are really looking forward to her first Christmas. She is crawling and cruising at record speed, which combined with her insatiable curiosity means she is getting into EVERYTHING.
Rob is still working at UNC in the Information Technology department, making sure that the computers on campus are behaving properly. He was awarded Employee of the Month honors this year, which was unexpected considering what a lazy employee he really is. Oh well, I guess he has management fooled. He still plays bass, organ and other instruments thrown his way at church and regularly rocks out garage-band style with friends in the lower level of our house.
Christy is grateful to be a stay-at-home mom, although it's only now that the weather is freezing that she and Kathryn are actually "staying home" much at all. They love to take walks to the park, go to story/song times and play groups, and meet Rob for lunch whenever possible. She has awarded herself Mommy of the Month for nine months straight. She completed her Master's in Education through Lesley University last summer and has taken a very part time position with them as a site coordinator (hey, it beats watching Dr. Phil during Kathryn's naps!).
The kitty boys have adjusted relatively well to the arrival of our little girl. As long as they are fed the second we get up and the second Rob gets home in the evening, and as long as they get plenty of playtime with Mommy and are constantly told how special they are, they don't complain much. All they want is what they have coming to them; all they want is their fair share.

What we've been up to...
The Calm clan babysat while we went to an am(Mmmmmm)azing fondue dinner at The Melting Pot for our fourth anniversary. It was such a nice gift and we will never forget it!
I don't think Kathryn even noticed we were gone- she loved all the attention!
Although we've all been a little sick lately, we've had a lot of exciting times and outings. I have been able to catch just a few on camera...

Happy Thanksgiving, little turkey-butt!
I am so thankful for our family, especially our happy, healthy little girl. I'm sorry I called you "little turkey-butt", :) it's just that you were getting into EVERYTHING you weren't supposed to. You are so funny, but I can't let you know that even when you're being a little mischievous, you're adorable. I'm grateful for your ability to make me smile no matter what kind of day I've had. I'm grateful for your kind and gentle spirit, even if we need to work on the kind and gentle petting of kitties. I'm grateful for your energy, which might be featured on a Red Bull commercial one day. I'm just so thankful that you are our little Kathryn, and I love you so much.
Oh, and I'm thankful for Grandma Christopher being okay even after her kitchen gymnastics routine (complete with blueberry and cherry pie juggling) went awry. While I'm happy to report Grandma made it through with only eight stitches and perhaps a slightly bruised ego to match her face, hands, and knees; the pies did not fare so well. She always makes the holidays memorable- I can't wait to see how she'll top this next year. She's set the bar pretty high for herself*.
(*which is by no means a challenge to take up pole vaulting, Grandma.)
A side note- in the background is the clock Kathryn was totally obsessed with the entire weekend. We have no idea why.

Kathryn's sleeping. I hope I don't jinx it, but she has been going to bed at 8:00 pm and sleeping until about 7:00 am, waking up just once or twice to eat.

Well, between chasing after this very mobile (FAST!) kid and trying to keep her cold under control, I have been super-busy! I brought her to the doctor yesterday to get a diaper rash checked out, and she weighed in at 17 lbs., 11 oz. 'Attagirl! She is enjoying more solid foods now, and eats breakfast, lunch and dinner at the table with us. She is already reaching the "let ME do it" phase, so the messy finger foods are a real hit. She has been crawling for a few weeks. She's gone from a snail to a cheetah. As you can imagine, making kitty things (food, toys and litter boxes) accessible to them but not to her is a challenge. She keeps me (literally) on my toes.
