Every night right before she goes to sleep, I sing Kathryn a song of her choice. Lately she has asked for "Here we go, Little Tomato". As when she asks for any song I don't know, I made something up. (For the longest time, she had me sing the theme song to The Never Ending story. I have absolutely NO clue what any of the actual words are but I faked it, rhymes, scansion and all. She either never caught on or she was humoring me.) At any rate, the silly tomato song- she thinks it's hilarious. She loves vegetables. Mostly in a plant them, pick them, wash them, sing about them, play with them sort of way. The other evening I was boiling potatoes. She asked to hold the littlest one before I put it in. Then she told me she wanted it to be her snuggle bud that evening. Thankfully, we have a book about a pumpkin who dreams of being a jack o' lantern, and we made up a story about how this potato wanted to be made into fancy mashed potatoes with butter on top, and enjoyed by a very special little girl. It got us out of having her snuggle the potato that night, but of course you know which song she wanted to hear when bedtime came.
